DAYTON RESIDENCE
Boulder, Colorado • 3,765 sq ft
An urban farm in the center of Boulder, Colorado, the Dayton residence embodies a shared philosophy between owner and architect. The why of what we build is integrated into every corner of this LEED Platinum, Zero-Energy home.
The initial brief was straight-forward, “Energy efficient, reduce water consumption, conserve resources and materials. And make it beautiful.” With guidance from our visionary client, we then created a home for her family to sit within a 1 acre farm, surrounded by an orchard, a duck pond, and gardens galore.
We studied the Colorado farmhouse vernacular in order to reinterpret this time honored building type for a modern home today. Using meticulously-detailed, corrugated concrete siding with wood battens gives the house it’s contemporary feel while the geometry of the buildings echo back to farmhouses historically built along the front range. An open, inviting living space welcomes guests, the greenhouse provides warmth (and vegetables) in the winter, and the connection to the landscape can be felt from every corner.
