The Yarmouth Master Plan, which includes the EFAA mixed use building and Solar Row Townhomes designed by GWA, brought a challenge from the lead developer – the People’s Clinic – as they needed 183 parking spaces for their building. The solution was a simple one – hide the cars. Leading a partnership that included Boulder Housing Partners, Habitat for Humanity, The Affordable Housing Alliance, and EFAA, we designed the streetscape first bringing the houses and townhouses to address the street with welcoming porches and entries, allowing the parking to occur behind, out of view from the street. This strategy created a walkable environment for the pedestrian while allowing design flexibility for the non-profits providing housing, client services, and work places that has evolved into a vibrant and diverse neighborhood.
